An outfit I wore to brunch in the east village this weekend - though these pictures were taken in Chinatown. It's so weird, but I'm not a huge fan of Chinatown - perhaps it's because it is EXACTLY like China. And although China has its perks, the nauseating smell of Chinese supermarkets is enough to turn me away. The food in Chinatown, on the other hand, is absolutely phenomenal.

The glowing cloudy sunshine made for great photos. I absolutely loved it. And thank god it was a beautiful 48 degrees in New York today. Perfect.

Love these Zara shoes that I scored in Hong Kong last February. Sadly I lost some of the studs, but I still love them. They're super comfy and have done me well.

Happy Valentine's day everyone! I made chocolate-covered strawberries & coconut oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for my friends and spent the day running all over New York delivering them! Doing nice things for other people just feels so good. But I also treated myself to this yummy 16 handles yogurt.

I took this picture from my IPHONE!! The picture quality is absolutely amazing on the 4 and I'm always impressed by the camera. Sighs. I love my phone.
(16 Handles is THE best frozen yogurt in this city. HANDS DOWN.)

So New York Fashion Week is in full swing, and here's a quick post of my favorite outfits from my favorite shows, even though I was too lazy to trek to Lincoln Center to go see the shows themselves. Hahah. Hey, tt's cold outside!! Although now seeing the looks, I wish I had gone to some of them... sadness. Well I hope those people who got in due to my absence are happy.

So here's my favorites of FW 2011:

1. ADAM - I absolutely love the volume and how Adam plays with materials in this look. The chunky knitted cardigan perfectly contrasts with the feminine lace top and the wear-to-work tailored trousers. Can't wait to do my own take on this look! A+.

2. Alexander Wang - Ofcourse, it's not New York fashion week without Alex. And this look is absolutely stunning. Everything from the slit sleeves and the de-constructed skirt is absolutely perfect. And don't even get me started on his shoes!! Now, I just need all this in my closet. Thanks Alex.

3. Edun - I dont even have words for this look. Its heaven. Want. Now.

4. Jason Wu - Thank god MObama put Jason Wu on the map. I don't think any designer has shown as much old Hollywood glam and feminine sophistication as Mr. Wu. And boy does he do it well. I would give an arm to wear this number.

5. Prabal Grung - Newcomer Prabal put out a FABULOUS collection. Picking one look was so ridiculously hard, but I had to go with this beautiful gradient feather number. When I go Oscars, I want this one Prabal!

6. United Bamboo - This look is proof that less is more. The draping is perfection and longer hemline really makes me love this dress. I'd wear this all day, everyday. Please United Bamboo!!

7. Vena Cava - Newbies Vena Cava have become serious players on the NYFW scene. And they always put out a strong collection. I love the texture play in this look. I'd totally rock this if I had those abs. Hahaha.

So I FINALLY got everything sorted out.

I'm comfortably settled in a surprisingly roomy apartment on the upper upper east side which I found on Craigslist. Yep. I found my apartment and my roomies on Craigslist. I got extremely lucky though, I absolutely love my roommates, and my room turned out being WAY roomier than I anticipated. Or maybe it's only roomy because I only have an air mattress in there...

Still not employed yet. But I'm definitely trying very VERY hard to find one. Looking for a full-time job has turned into a full-time job. It's scary and exciting at the same time. I guess it really is one of the only times in your life that you face this kind of uncertainty. So... I should enjoy it..? Ah, I still don't like this feeling.

Anyway, I thought that I get back into the groove of blogging now that Fashion Week is starting here in the city. I must say - *starstruck* moment - I was at Whole Foods the other day and Karlie Kloss was definitely shopping for marinara sauce right next to me. Of course I was too geeked to say anything to her. (I'm pathetic). But it was quite exciting.

Oh, I definitely left my tripod in Michigan, so until I make some friends here in the city, the outfit updates will be sluggish. Sadness.

So anyway, here's a picture dump.

Hey guys. I'm FINALLY back FOR GOOD. In my 3 month haitus, I've graduated with degrees in Economics and Art History, I've taken the GMAT (for business school), and I'm going to be relocating to New York at the end of the month! I currently don't have a job lined up, but hopefully someone out there will find me useful (please hire me!!). It's a bit scary, but also extremely exciting.

I hope to sustain regular updates now, I'm so sorry that I left for so long. Although I'm sure no one missed me that much anyway. Haha. I'm hoping to not only do outfit posts but make The Voguette into a more well rounded fashion blog with editorials, more collages, and photos.

It's seriously cold in Michigan right now, thus it's necessary to layer up!

Hey guys, sorry for the INSANE delays in posting, updates are going to be very sluggish for the next two months as school has been driving me insane. I'm graduating a semester early, which means that I need to cram all my classes for my double major in one semester. I've been passing my time with studying and freaking out about unfinished work. Needless to say my days have been spent at the library laboring over economic philosophy or in the darkroom developing prints for class. I did allow myself to celebrate for a few hours on Halloween, and here's my DIY costume that I threw together the day of!

Iam really REALLY going to try and post sometime in the next month, but if I don't it's probably because I've retreated to an unexplored corner of the library and cut myself off from the real world. :(

I've been living in some deviation of this outfit for the past week. The weather is rather odd here - hot one moment, cold the next, and my excessive layering makes it easy to adjust to the fluctuating temperatures.

Now that school has started, I can't be fussed to wear anything that's not comfortable or easy to move around in which throws all extravagant dresses and high maintenance ensembles out the window. Sometimes it feels good to return to basics. Especially when half most of my life is spent in the library toiling over homework. Blah.

On a more exciting note - I finally got into the film photography class I've been longing to take for years! It's one of the few art classes for non-art school students that Michigan offers, so, naturally, there's a ridiculous wait list every year. But I cannot be more thrilled about it! Film has always been a medium that I've longed to explore - but it's tricky and mistakes are rather costly (unlike digital). Hopefully I'll be able to put some of my work up here too!

I finally got my hands on this awesome tiered taupe cardigan from the lovely Karen from Purple Lab. It's a piece from stylist Lori Goldstein's line for QVC called Logo Instant Chic - and I absolutely love it! You can't tell from the pictures but the back of the cardigan is actually a sheer chiffon and it's absolutely amazing. I wore this outfit for my second day of classes - it's ridiculous that college has only been in session for two days and I'm already swamped with work. I guess that's my own fault for being an Econ major though.... grrr.

Oh, and my friend gave me that awesome amethyst Chan Luu bracelet for my 21st, and it has been glued to my arm ever since. I absolutely adore it.

It's undeniable that photography plays a major role in creating a great editorial, and I think Mario Sorrenti attests to that. This beautiful spread of Raquel Zimmerman for Vogue Nippon is filled with rich textures, striking compositions and, of course, great ensembles.

I absolutely love Raquel Zimmerman, to say that she's a chameleon would be an understatement. Seriously, is there anything this girl can't do?

As promised, here are the pictures I did in Detroit with local photographer Jennifer Hui, check out her work here. I couldn't be more pleased with how these pictures turned out! I absolutely loved going around Detroit as well, it's a shame that people try to avoid it.

I've decided that I need to get new bracelets because my usual stack of silver and black is beginning to get mundane, I think I'm overdue for a trip to the vintage shop... or the craft store. Haha.

Short post today, this week has been crazy, I've been trying to see everyone before they go off to college, packing my stuff to move up to college, living at a friends house and trying to help out. Expect regular posts next week.

I absolutely love this All Saints dress from ASOS.com, its super comfy and perfectly draped, the only thing is that it's super thin and thus completely see through, so be sure to wear appropriate underwear! Haha.

Went to Detroit today with a local photographer to shoot, I'm super excited to see the shots!!!

Editorial of the Week: Josephine for Oyster #88

I love it when I discover stunning editorials from lesser known magazines. I think sometimes the big names can get too caught up in making deadlines and featuring specific pieces that they forget that fashion photography is, in its entirety, an art. Having widely-acclaimed photographers and top models don't always guarantee a fantastic shoot. Oftentimes the shots look over-processed and extremely commercial. They lack a certain charm and personality.

Josephine de la Baum's editorial by Cameron Smith embodies an authenticity not found in high-budget editorials. Shot for Oyster Magazine, the spread features a dreamy Josephine frolicking in churches and graveyards decked out in Miu Miu, Dolce & Gabbana,and Christopher Kane. I wonder how the church would respond to her black lace corset

PS. It's 4:07 am in China right now, this will be the last post I'll be making from Shanghai for a while!! I board a 12 hour flight to the US at 10am!! I could not be more excited to go home!

A friend suggested that I do a "what's in my bag?" post, so here it is! I've always loved reading these on other blogs, and I only just realized that I've never done one! It's probably due to the fact that my bag doesn't carry anything remotely interesting - no lucky charms, no cool lighter, not even a fun key chain! Man, I'm so boring! But here is what can be found in my bag:

3. Watch & random bracelets that I took off throughout the day
4. GLASSES. God I love them.
5. ITOUCH. Essential for Survival.

It's way too hot here. Humidity is at 80%, and the temperature today is a lovely 100 degrees. It doesn't help that the air conditioning in my office is subpar. On days like these I feel like wearing as little as humanly possible. This is my solution to that. Although that necklace doesn't really help to keep you cool - it was promptly removed shortly after being put on.

I'll be back in the US in SIX DAYS! It seems like forever since I left. I've been gone for almost a full 8 months, it's weird to think that one can leave for so long, but nothing will have changed when you get back. It's as if everything's just waiting for you to pick up your old life again, and the only thing that will be changed is, well, you.

1. Proenza Schouler Campaigns. I love the fact that they chose to use new faces, it makes the ads look fresh and young like the brand. And that colored stripe across? Brilliant.

2. Alexander Wang Campaign Video. Abbey Lee + Craig McDean + Alexander Wang. Does it get any better than this? No. No, it does not.

3. Fall Zara TRF Collection. Just as expected, TRF puts out another super on-trend collection with all the aura and mystery of the wild wild west. Too bad there's no Zara back home in middle-of-nowhere Michigan. But GREAT NEWS!! ZARA'S ONLINE STORE OPENS SEPTEMBER 2!! YESSSSSS.

4. Madras by A.P.C. for Urban Outfitters. I've always been a fan of french label A.P.C. but sadly never been able to afford it. Looks like someone was listening to my prayers! The collection will be available on-line and in stores August 20!

5. Caroline, Julia N. & Julia S. for Dazed & Confused. Great styling, AMAZING makeup. Love everything about it!

The worlds of fashion and music seem so often to be intertwined and interdependent. Indeed, music festivals are one of the best places for streetstyle, and dress is an undeniable aspect that sets bands apart (other than music, ofcourse!) Thus it should not come as a suprise that a strong interest in music blossomed from my love for fashion.

All my friends are uploading pictures from Lollapalooza, and I could not be more envious. The line-up is insane this year, and ofcourse, I just happen to be here, on the other side of the world. I've been trying to experiment more with my camera but the unbearbly humid weater and the fact that I'm stuck in an office during daylight hours does not help matters. So I'm confined to shooting in my house, and I shoot with a tripod, so, there's only so much I can do. Sorry for the boring photos. They'll get better when I get back to the states, and have my awesome photographer friends around. =)

I'm really loving super light fabrics for summer - everything from sheer silks to light linens sets my heart a-flutter. Also, skirt-esque shorts are my newest wardrobe must-have. I'm in the market for an awesome pair of flat sandals, the ones I bought in nyc last summer are getting ruined - but I can't bear to toss them aside.

I finally got my hands on some Chanel temporary tattoos, and I'm completely obsessed with my set. They're amazing and really good quality Though be warned - they will make you want to stop showering so you can keep your tattoo on for that much longer. Haha. Not to worry, I still shower on a regular basis. I just don't look foward to it. Oh, and here's a little something I did out of boredom...

PS. The new Arcade Fire album is GREAT. I've been listening to it non-stop, it's even spinning as I type. I'm working on an album review for Formzine.com, will let you know when it goes up. In the meantime, LISTEN. LISTEN. LISTEN.

Back to Basics

I think the fundementals of great design often get convuluted with sequins, prints, and other decorative frill. Not to say I don't enjoy said frill, but sometimes it feels refreshing to take the "less is more" approach. I found this beautifully draped shirt at a local store here in Shanghai, and I'm absolutely in love with it. The light cotton material keeps me cool, and the smart draping makes the blouse universally flattering, not to mention chic. I paired it with a pair of denim cut-offs and the most comfortable wedges! I threw on my alternative to a Mulberry Alexa - I also found it at some random shop here, but it was all leather, so I think this is as close to the real deal as I'm ever gonna get.

I'm super jealous of anyone that has waist-length locks right now. I attempted the Alexander Wang side braid, needless to say it failed miserably and all I got was a lump of mess on the right side of my head. Damn you short hair. I feel like my hair isnt long enough to wear any fun hairstyle, I guess I'll continue to pile it all on the top of my head.

Well, my lunch break is over, its back to work for me!

I think I have multiple personality disorder. Currently I'm obsessed (on one hand) with everything Texas Cowboy giving off that carefree all-american rugged ranger attitude. I crave light denims, cowboy hats, harness boots, and ofcourse destroyed cutoffs. But then I'm also in love with all items that channel Pocahantas, and exude a more spiritual feel - fringe suede bags, feather accessories, bright earthy prints, and ofcourse, tie dye. Thus I was torn between making a Wild Wild West collage and a Neon Indian one.

Bah! But why should I choose? So I combined both of them into one and I think they compliment eachother very nicely. Tis the summmer to mix worn denim jackets with a tribal print dress and a studded fringe cross-body. Or why not don a tie dye dress with a pair of embellished cowboy boots? I think doing a DIY tie dye project is going to be on the top of my list when I get back to the US.

As of late I've been craving for a nice olive-y army green to compliment all the neutrals in my closet, but it's too hot to wear a jacket, and I don't think I'm ready to take the plunge and don an army green cargo skirt. On one of my weekly visits to H&M, I stumbled upon this amazing sheer army green blouse and it was truly love at first sight. It could not be more perfect in this unbearable humidity.

Never visit Shanghai in the summer. It's like visiting Paris in early August (when everyone is making good use of their month-long vacation soaking up the rays along the Cote d'Azur) - you just don't do it.

All I want right now is a nice juicy salad. If anyone knows where I can find a good crisp fresh bowl of utter yummyness in Shanghai, your wisdom would be greatly appreciated.=D

Now I will attempt to put together a salad-resembling concoction with the Chinese veggies & fruits in my fridge. I will let you know how it turns out. Wish me luck!

This is the first time I've stumbled upon work by Will Davidson, but I'm going to keep an eye open for him from now on. Absolutely amazing.

The choice to start a blog comes with a bundle of responsibilities. Ofcourse, it's a breeding ground for freedom of speech, and serves as a blank canvas upon which we leave our mark on the unexplored nether-regions of the interwebs. But a successful blog requires as much care and attention as a Yorkish Terrier. One must be consistent, thoughtful, creative and vigilant at the same time. It's rare that you find a fascinating blogger who lacks all the preceding qualities.

Thus, I've decided to make some changes to my blog. For the past year and a half, it has sufficed me to post whatever I felt like, when I felt like it. I've decided this needs to stop. I want to thank you all for reading my blog for this long, I was convinced that The Voguette would have gone to internet wasteland after 6 months. It's really a wonderful feeling knowing that at the end of an exhausting day, you can post something that people want to read and perhaps look forward to reading. So really, thank you guys.

I hope you will continue visiting after I terminate my sporadic and seemingly arbitrary posts. I really do think a little structure will keep me motivated to update more and explore fashion in it's entirety.

So here are my resolutions:

1. Update at least once every two days (as long as I have internet access, because right now, Blogger is definitely blocked in China... but you know... I work my magic...)

2. Posts will have more variety - instead of boring old outfit posts and random editorials, I'm planning on doing an editorial of the week post, as well as a "Now in Vogue" post which will feature a trend that I love, runway reviews, and a weekly mood board, of course there will be plenty of outfit posts, but they will no longer be the ONLY content on my blog.

3. Write more - I have a little confession - writing makes me nervous. That was the biggest hurdle I got over when I decided to start this blog. I'm sure you all notice that my posts are mainly pictures with some superficial four-sentence paragraph just to make the post look prettier. The truth is, I'm not very eloquent when it comes to words. But I guess that can only be changed with practice.

I'm publicly announcing these resolutions in hopes that you all will get on my back when I break any of them. Also because it would be incredibly embarrassing for me to break one now that I've published them. I hope these changes will also give you guys a better experience on The Voguette.

LOVE MUSIC -- Them:Youth

I want to be at a music festival more than anything. Prehaps its the lure of summer, and the thought of dancing into the night without a care in the world, losing yourself in the elusive sounds. I did a little collage of my favorite festivals around the world - I have yet to attend all of them, but these festivals have kickass line-ups from year to year. I've always wanted to go to Glastonbury, the 5-day king of all music festivals, but never found the time/money to fly all the way out there for a week. One day. The Pitchfork festival is going on in Chicago right now, too bad I'm on the other side of the world, for Chicago is a mere 4 hour drive from my home in Michigan. But I'm hearing lots of good things about it. I was actually introduced to Primavera Sound (in Barcelona) through a friend I met while studying in Paris. I booked my tickets immediately after looking at the awesome lineup (the xx, the Pixies, Wilco, Matt & Kim, Grizzly Bear, etc.). I saw lots of really great bands and it was phenomenal.

For a music-lover, there's nothing like the feeling of getting new music. I was lucky enough to have a chance to interview the boys from Them:Youth, a hip 4-man indie rock band hailing from West London. Them:Youth first came on my radar when I saw them on We All Want Someone To Shout For, one of my favorite music blogs. I was more than estatic when they contacted me and offered to give an exclusive track to all my readers! Fever Rising, which is not scheduled to be released until August, is the artful mix of garage band rock and britpop vocals, and it's thrilling bassline keeps you dancing all night long!

How did your band start?
It was a college thing first of all really.. just playing some parties to friends and then escualting from there.. we have always had a firm belief that we have something special

Who are your most prominent musical influences?
Our influences seem to be changing like the wind at the moment.. we listen to anything from the Rolling Stones to DJ Shadow to the Brian Jonestown Massacre and a whole lot inbetween.. finding other new music is a big thing for us..

Favorite spot in London?
Got to say Richmond Upon Thames as its where we spend the majority of our time.. its also got some history with the Rolling Stones being the house band at the Crawdaddy Club there at the start of there career...

British style has always been heavily influenced by music - as a band, how would you describe yours?
I would say we are male divas.. style and image are a major part of what we do.. I think it will get more flamboyant as we go which iam excited about.. love the Brian Jones mid/late sixties look...

Best places to shop in London?
Carnaby Street is still close to our hearts with its sense of nostalgia.. I would say Liberty's is the best shop in London just a shame we can't afford to shop there lol...

Favorite music festival?
Rock en Seine in Paris.. the Parisians do it with style

If you could pick 5 bands to headline at your own music festival who would they be?

The National Gallery houses some really amazing art, who's your favorite artist in there?
Pablo Picasso all the way.. think we relate to his art.. shame he's not around to do our sleeve...

You've released a lot of amazing singles, do you have an album in the works? If so, when can we expect it?
Yes... album is on the way hopefully in the new year.. it feels like we have been locked in the studio forever.. we can't wait for the world to hear the outcome.. we are very proud boys..

Do you guys have plans to come to our side of the pond? If so, where would you want to go first?
Hopefully we can get over very soon .. would love to get round the States.. think it would have to be NYC first as we are big fans of Sex and the City... then onto somewhere warm me thinks..

AMAZING dress? I think so. I didn't even try this on before I bought it, I just grabbed it and bee-lined for the cash wrap. Good thing it fits... lol.

Yes. I gave myself a pastel rainbow manicure. I'm in love with it! Also - got new glasses a while back, haven't been able to get a decent picture of them yet... but it will happen.

Really hope Spain wins tonight - I'm staying up till 2:30 am to watch the game here in China. Sadly, I still have to leave for work at 7:30 am... let's hope there's no overtime...

I know I always make excuses for my lack of updating - it's really only to make myself feel less guilty - but I've been extremely busy with my internship! I actually find myself enjoying it immensely - I mean, how wonderful is it to get paid for surfing fashion websites and looking for inspiration? I do that on a daily basis anyway!

I first saw this shirt on an H&M ad in the subway, and it was, quite literally, love at first sight. In an ideal world I would be brave enough to wear this crop with just shorts (and have the abs to do so). But it turns out I'm whimpy and opted for the high-waist look. Sorry that last picture super shitty, I have yet to master how to get a clear picture in mid-air - *embarrassment*.

In my editorial research at work, I discovered this photo from an absolutely captivating editorial which is actually for Oysho's spring summer collection (they just opened up a store near Hotel de Ville in Paris).

Summer is well upon us, even though the humidity and spontaneous downpour in Shanghai makes one think otherwise. Every summer I find myself, like so many others I'm sure, craving for ethnic prints and rich vivid hues that will highlight my newly acquired tan complexion. Yes, Yes, Tanning kills.I am aware that in China people are supposed to have ghastly pale skin. No I do not want face bleaching products. But thank you for your concern.

This summer I've become increasingly attracted to everything Bombay. Elaborate embroidered patterns, sari-esque draping, gold jewelry and particularly Indian style scarves. I'm a firm believer the scarf is a year-round accessory. I'm sure that the inventor of the scarf must have been a genius of sorts.

Anyway, enough babble. I hope you guys enjoy my little mood board. <3

God, I know I'm crap at updating this blog. A million apologies. My last week in Paris was probably the busiest week I had in months. Leaving Paris is always so hard, but perhaps for the best because my bank account is much happier now that I don't have to use Euros everywhere. But it's a weird feeling. I've called Paris home for the last 4 months and yet I feel like I'm only just beginning to know the city. It's quite unsettling, leaving your friends and places that are familiar to you - without knowing when you'll see them again. But I have been told that good friends never seem to have been away for very long.

Anyway, after a long 18 hours with a transfer in Doha, Qatar (yes, that's in the middle east) I'm finally in Shanghai. I'll be doing an product marketing internship for a fashion label here this summer. I hope I'll like this internship better than some of the others that I've had. I've yet to find anything that I REALLY want to get into.

Hopefully I'll update more while I'm here without the thrills of Paris constantly tempting me!! Till next time! <3

I'd just like to announce that I've been wearing neon nail polish non-stop for the last three weeks. I can't get enough of it - and the embarrassing part is that I only have TWO colors! Both from Essie's neon collection last summer (punchy pink and funky limelight) but I would love more!! So if anyone has any recommendations I'd love to hear them!

I was making the rounds at TFS and was awestruck at this editorial of Suzanne Diaz by Marcus Ohlsson from the June issue of Velvet mag. Be warned - theres slight nudity.

Amazing editorial of Raquel Zimmerman by David Sims for the July Issue of Vogue Paris. I love the styling - and ofcourse Raquel can make ANYTHING look amazing - even that crazy Warhol-esque hair that she has going on in that first pic.

These last few weeks are going to be extremely busy for me, but I'm going to make a conscious effort to update more. lol. We'll see how that goes...

Finally back from my European excursions. I'll be staying in Paris for the rest of my time here (until the June 21st and then it's off to Shanghai I go - to intern, of course ). Sadly I won't be heading back to the US until the last week of August! I've already been gone for 6 months and it feels like FOREVER since I've seen my friends! Oh well, life goes on. Hehe.

That up there is my lovely bike. I bought her just for my stay here in Paris, and will sadly have to give her up when I leave. But I absolutely love biking in the city, it's so much more efficient and enjoyable than riding the stuffy metro.

Anyway, Primavera Sound was absolutely amazing. I saw SOOO many great bands - The XX, Matt & Kim, The Pixies, Wilco, Spoon, Florence + the Machine, as well as a lot of new bands that I really love! I would highly recommend it to anyone who going to be in Barcelona next summer. Everyone there was decked out in their festival ensembles - and needless to say the crowd looked impeccable. I wish I was able to take some streetwear photos, but I only had my super shitty point & shoot because they wouldn't let "professional" cameras in.

Wore this outfit because I was anticipating it to be 65 degrees in Paris the other day, turns out weather.com lies and it only reached 60. Bummer. I'm so sick of rainy and grey weather, I'm ready to bust out some summer clothing, and not freeze my ass off whilst wearing it!

Today was one of the most fabulous days I've had in a while. I went shopping - FOR CLASS!! We were talking about Haussmanization and the introduction of the department store to Paris, and we actually had class in the stores! A little tip for those heading to Paris in the near future - at the department store Printemps on Boulevard Haussmann there's a rooftop terrace cafe with AMAZING views of the city. I never knew it existed until today!

After our glamorous outing to the Saks & Neimans of Paris, I went to a dinner party in the ultra chic 7th arrondissement. The apartment itself was like something out of my dreams. Penthouse, of course, with an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower, and decorated with the most phenomenal antique furniture I've ever seen in my life. Golden sunlight was streaming through the floor to ceiling windows which led out to a balcony. The chairs were covered in the same kind of silk that Marie Antoinette used for her walls in Versailles. He even had sets of SEVRES porcelain! (Sorry going into my nerd mode). But it's like something out of a dream, never did I think my Parisan excursions would lead me to such an amazing apartment.

But what was EVEN MORE impressive than the furniture and the apartment was the food. We had perfectly sliced foie gras, impossibly thin prosciutto, fine aged French cheese, a HUGE box of Laduree Macarons, and bottles upon bottles of really wonderful red wine. The host was ever so nice and it was really one of the most enjoyable evenings I've spent here in the city. I can't believe how lucky I am!

Also, I'll be in Germany for the next four days, I'll be back in Paris for 24 hours, then I'll be going to Barcelona for the Primavera Sound Festival!!! I'm so so excited!! Let me know if any of you are going to be there, I'd love to meet up!

Treasures Found in the Marais...

I was strolling in the ever-fashionable Marais the other day when I stumbled upon what can only be described as Paris' most comprehensive cake and cupcake shop! It's called Berko but I've already forgotten which street it's on... I want to say rue vielle du temple, but I'm not sure. Being an avid fan of food porn - it was only natural that I took pictures of everything in sight! I had a mini red velvet cupcake and I must say it rivals the red velvet at Magnolias... and definitely better than the one at Crumbs (both in NYC). But I don't know if my opinion is worth anything - you have to go try for yourself!

Wore this during a lucky streak of semi-warm weather here in Paris. When I came here, I thought that it was just going to be sunny and warm all the time - I don't know why, because it's even further north than Michigan is.... Prehaps it was because I assumed that Parsians are well dressed and therefore the weather should be accommodating... or.. something. Haha. Good logic, I know.

So Met Gala last week in NYC, I found the outfits to be rather boring. I mean, almost everyone looked good, but there was no drama or excitement - except for, ofcourse, the lovely Coco Rocha's Zac Posen number. And WHYY were the Olsens MIA at this year's Met Gala?!? It was disappointing.

In more exciting news, President Barack Obama was the commencement speaker at (my) graduation ceremony. Okay, so technically I'm not graduating till December, but you have to attend the ceremony in June, and that was supposed to be my graduation ceremony, even though I wasn't able to attend. It's still cool to say that he was at my graduation. Extremely eloquent that Obama. I'm very sad that I had to miss it, but you know... at least I'm in Paris.

In other news, the spring issue of i-D mag is FILLED with awesome editorials! It features Freja, Sasha, Maricarla, Abbey, Dree... just to name a few.

This denim blouse from H&M is probably one of the best purchases I ever made this summer - I find myself wearing it nearly every single day. I'm even contemplating buying another H&M Denim blouse so I can have them in rotation! And the nerdy H&M glasses are another great purchase - I can't believe I found them as it's super difficult for me to find frames that don't look stupid on me, but I always have these on as well. H&M should thank me for being a walking advertisement!! I really do need to stop shopping there so much, but its so hard!

I'm finally back from SPAIN!!! YAYYY!! I had an amazing trip, and I feel like I'm five shades darker. I'm happy to say that the Icelandic volcano did not cause too much trouble for me. Expect pictures / outfits from my trip soon! Although keep in mind that I was living out of a 15 pound backpack for 2 weeks thus I had a very limited wardrobe.

Anyway, I wore this outfit in Paris right before I left for my Spanish holiday - and just managed to put up the pictures - I know I'm absolutely horrible. Like many I've been absolutely obsessed with the Balenciaga F/W09 collection and I could not be happier to find that H&M has finally created a Balenciaga-inspired dress - although I wish they made the v-neck puffy shoulder blouse as well... oh well, I adore the dress nonetheless. (Haha, just rhymed.)

Lessons in Flight

Okay, so it's official - I SUCK at updating my blog! I really will make more of an effort next month to update more. It's so hard to find people who are willing to take your picture / places to take a picture! The weather in Paris has been extremely awful - cold and rainy. Also I have to go from museum to museum for class, and it's hard to bike with my dSLR in my bag. I know I shouldn't make excuses, but I PROMISE that updates will occur more regularly in May.

Um, yes, I said May. My spring break starts on the 14th and I'll be spending 2 wonderful (sunny) weeks in Barcelona & Mallorca - but I won't be able to take my computer with me due to luggage weight regulations at the airport. Sorry!! I promise the 2 week wait will be well worth your time!!

Anyway, I took these pics right after I got out of my class at the Louvre. It was a beautifulllly sunny Thursday afternoon. I bought the tights at American Apparel YEARS ago, but I didn't think suburban Michigan could handle them. So I decided to give them a test run in Paris, I got a few looks, but I think overall they were only slightly out of the blue. Haha.

Okay so I know I say this every time, but I'm SO SORRY about the lack of updates. That will be my goal for the rest of the month - to update more. If it makes anyone feel better, I even forgot that my blog had a birthday in February, so now The Voguette is more than a year old (thank you so so much to everyone who reads this blog - you guys are amazing, and I love you!).

I wore this outfit last week on a macaroon excursion - one of the very many perks about being in Paris. Macaroons are DIVINE. Luckily the weather has warmed up since then.

So I stumbled upon this awesome editorial whilst making the rounds on tfs today... it's from Velvet Magazine, forgot the model and the photog, but... what an AMAZING editorial!

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in updates, it appears that I've been struck down with swine and thus have been confined to my bed in pjs for the past few days (no cute outfits guys, sorry). But I'm feeling slightly better today, so here is the promised recap from Paris fashion week!

First, I must say that this whole experience has been absolutely surreal, and I'm still trying to convince myself that I actually attended the shows. I feel unbelievably lucky and I'm very excited to share my experience with you guys!

Snapped these pictures in the Luxembourg gardens on a wonderfully sunny Parisian afternoon. Which seems to be rare these days. It's amazing how people seem to take sunshine for granted, there's something so carefree and soothing about soaking up those golden rays.

Sorry for the lack of updates from Paris! For the last week I've been trying to navigate the city, figure out my classes, and attempting to communicate using my french skills which are seriously lacking.

But after a organ concert at St. Suplice, I managed to get a quick shot of my outfit:

First Day in Paris

So on my first day in Paris, I had to meet my classmates at Saint Suplice (the chruch on rive gauche) at 3:00 SHARP. Now normally I'm pretty good with directions, and seeing it's my fourth time in the city I didn't think it would be too difficult.

Initially I gave myself a lot of time in the morning to roam around Paris before I had to be there, and I was doing pretty well until 2:30... when I realized I had been walking for a good 20 minutes in the opposite direction of where I want to be.

But these are pictures from everything I caught along the way - who knew getting lost in paris would be so much fun?

I'm absolutely obsessed with that last guy - there should be people blowing giant bubbles everywhere in paris. =D

I'm FINALLY back from China!! Sorry I haven't updated in forever!! It's kinda difficult updating from China since both blogger and Imageshack are blocked. I had to use photobucket which sucks (I'll fix my photobucket problem and transfer my images to imageshack asap). And China is super ontop of finding proxy servers so the proxy that I used was not only annoyingly slow but sometimes it didnt work... gahh.

Anyway, I took these pictures on my aunt & uncle's roof in Dali, Yunan China. The view there is absolutely beautiful and they have lots of sun and clear blue skies. *sighs* now I'm back to grey and snowy days...

I'm leaving for Paris tomorrow, and I'll be there for fashion week!! I'm super super excited, being in France just feels so right! My first stop will be Laduree to pick up some of their divine macaroons. Hahah.

So I'm a huge fan of trenches for spring. In fact, I looked at the new Burberry SS10 ads, and I realized that I wanted every single one of the trench coats that Emma Watson is wearing in them. Sadness. If only...

On the plus side, my mom found this great pair of faux Isabel Marants at small shop here in Shanghai. I absolutely love them. Unfortunately, my mother is not willing to let them go. Oh well. At least I can borrow them!

I've decided that I need to get bracelets, I'm sure you guys are sick of seeing the same pile of black & silver on my rist... with the same vintage rings... haha I'll use that as my excuse to buy more... =P

Lastly... can anyone recommend a good restaurant in Shanghai? I'm already sick of the ones that I always go to, but too scared to venture out into the abyss of Shanghai eateries without guidance.

how to wear your hermes - 12 ways.

Lately Ive been getting into printed scarves and started playing around with some of my mom's. I've decided to do a little experiment to see how many different ways you can wear a Hermes or any large square scarf. And here are some of my favorite ways to wear it:

#1. Wear it as a fitted halter

How to achieve this look: fold your scarf into a triangle, then tie the two sides of the top of the triangle around your neck, tie the tail ends around your waist - and viola! Here's a close-up

#2. Wear it as a one-shoulder dress

To achieve this look: tie two adjacent corners of the scarf around one shoulder, then use a clip (NOT A SAFETY PIN) to secure the two sides of the dress together. Make sure you wear strapless body-con underneath because the scarf won't be able to go around your hips.

#3. Wear it as a halter underneath a blazer.

Since Hermes scarves tend to be busy and brightly colored - this is a more subtle way to wear it. Simply fold the scarf into a triangle and tie both ends of the triangle around your neck. Be sure to wear a tank top or tube top underneath incase the scarf slips out of place =P.

#4. Wear it as a rosette scarf

This is a great and elegant way to tie a scarf. Simply fold the scarf into a triangle put it around your neck and twist the ends together until you get a spiral braid. Tie the ends together at the bottom of the braid. Tie the braid into a knot but don't pull the tail out all the way. And viola! We have a rosette!

#5. Wear it as a bandeau

If you're brave enough, and flat enough (might I add..), the Hermes Carre makes for a great bandeau. personally, I'm to whimpy to go anywhere in public like this but I do think the bow-front bandeau looks great - perhaps over a swimsuit on the beach? Maybe when I magically get abs. ahaha.

To get this look fold in two opposite corners of the scarf into the center until you get a long strip of fabric thats not too wide, but not too thin either! Haha. then just simply tie the long strip around yourself tufting the ends a bit so it looks like you have a bow in front.

#6. Wear it as schoolboy scarf.

This is a very simple way to wear the scarf for that "I just threw myself together" look. Fold the scarf into a triangle, and put it around your neck with the ends hanging in front, then tie a knot in one of the ends, about halfway down and slide the other end into the knot- and there we have it!

#7. Wear it as a strapless dress under a long cardigan

This is a really cute way to wear your scarf, but make sure you wear a strapless body-con dress or leggings under it because the scarf isnt big enough to cover your back! Just fold one corner of the scarf so that the corner just touches the center of the scarf, then using that folded side, tie it around you and there we have it!

#8. Wear it as a strapless top

Really really simple, I would pair this with basics, simply fold 2 opposite corners into the center, so that the corners touch the center of the scarf, then tie it around yourself with the folded edges on top and bottom.

#9. Wear it as a halter dress - 2 scarves are needed

This is one of my favorite ways to wear the scarf, but you do need two scarves to do the trick. First fold both of the scarves into a triangle then tie the same end of the triangles together so that when you hold it from the tie both triangles point outward, then put the tie around the nape of your neck and then tie the front together a little bit above your navel. Then tie the "point" of the triangles together behind your back. Remember to pair it with a skirt!

#10. Wear it as a cowl-neck halter

Another great way to wear the scarf, but it does show a lot of skin so you can either layer a bandeau under it or wear a black body-con halter underneath. to get this look simply tie two adjacent corners of the scarf together, put our head through it and tie the other two corners around your waist - and there you have it!

#11. Wear it as a bow tie

Really really simple, but it gives a great effect! Fold the scarf accordion style into a strip, tie a knot at the end of one side and slip the other side through the knot and you have yourself a cute little bowtie!

#12. Wear it as a scarf/capelet

This makes for a cute accessory - grab the midpoints of two opposing sides of the scarf, then move one hand up the scarf and the other hand down the scarf so that you're holding two asymmetrical points, then fold along those two points, and simply tie the ends in a knot around your neck and you're done!

I hope you guys enjoyed my little guide, I'm sorry the instructions are a little vague, but hopefully you'll be inspired to discover your own ways to wear a hermes!

I have a confession. I'm addicted to ANYTHING that is black and white striped. I own 5 black and white striped shirts and they're all very similar... but I convinced myself that they were extremely different when I bought them. I think nude will once again be my go-to color for spring, even though spring doesn't really come until mid-March. Ah well, I'm getting an early start.

Life in Shanghai is pretty boring right now, we are in the midst of moving into a new house so I haven't gotten much time to go out and explore the city. But I'm hoping to get some street style photos in before I leave for Paris.

On a different note, my love for Magdalena is never-ending. Here she is in Viktor & Rolf on the cover of next month's Dazed & Confused. LOVEEE.

Preen Pre-Fall 2010

I'm very impressed by the pre-fall collections this year and one of my current obsessions is Preen. The Preen show has always been one of the highlights of fashion week for me, and this season, they did not disappoint. I love how free-flowing drapery flirts with body-con silhouettes, and needless to say, I want to wear the whole collection. When is Preen going to do a line for Target? I'm eagerly waiting for it.

I'm slowly making my way through the rest of the pre-fall shows - stalking style.com like my life depends on it, but fashion week seems to bombard people with a whole lot of looks, trends, ideas, and it's hard to keep up!

I've been lusting for thigh high boots for sometime now, and I've finally found some here in Shanghai. Apparently PVC is the way to go if you want super form-fitted boots. I can't wait to try these on with different outfits, they're definitely staying on my feet for some time now. I thought my large oversized sweater from Express would be a good match - at least my upper body is warm! (Excuse the horrible photography, there's honestly no decent spot to take pictures in my apt here!)

Velvet Crush

It's surprisingly cold in Shanghai right now, which only encourages me to partake in activities that occur indoors. Thus, I had a rummage through my 50-pound suitcase, and I rediscovered this great turquoise velvet dress that I purchased from ASOS a while back. I'd always layer it with cardigans and vests, but, as you can imagine, that doesn't really do the dress justice. Thus, the best way to wear this dress is with nothing at all. Although it's simple, I think the dress speaks for itself. But I couldn't resist adding my favorite F21 studded cuff. =P

Vogue Nippon never ceases to amaze me. I love all the different textures and colors in this shoot - *edit* yes this is indeed Bregje Heinen and not Abbey Lee, I don't know why I got them confused, they don't even look alike... (excuse my relapse...)

I apologize if I don't update regularly while I'm here in Shanghai, my proxy server is being very temperamental and sometimes it doesn't want to work. I sincerely hope that the gov. doesn't discover my secret site because then I'll have to say goodbye to blogging till February 17th. It is such a pain in the ass that everything is blocked over here - Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Youtube, even parts of Google!

On the plus side, I did find a pair of really cute flat leather thigh-high boots yesterday. I've been looking for the perfect pair for a while and I'm so glad I finally found them. I would have gotten a heeled boot (because let's face it - heels make EVERYTHING look better) but my feet are retarded and heels cause me unnecessary amounts of pain. Sadness. But there is tons of great shopping in Shanghai - so I'm hoping to come back with a few good pieces!

I'm officially blogging from Shanghai. I just got here yesterday and these were some pics I took of an outfit I wore before I left Michigan. It angers me that the chinese government blocks almost every site I go on including Facebook, Twitter, and Blogger. Of course, like any determined internet-addict, I've managed to circumvent their firewall. Although it isn't easy...

I'll be in China for a good month before I depart for the lovely Paris to start my second semester. That means - lots of posting will be going on. (Honestly, I have nothing better to do here).

Right before I left, I picked up this amazing blue/purple glittery polish from the F21 beauty line - and I'm completely in love with it. It was honestly the best $2.70 I've ever spent. The polish is pretty thick and dries relatively quickly - I'd definitely recommend it to all polish-addicts.

So I, like any other recession shopper - totally went gaga over the Rodarte for Target collection. I ended up purchasing three dresses... oops. I like to justify it by telling myself that it's my christmas present...to me. Okay so its not a great reason, but the collection was so girly and whimsical that I honestly couldn't resist.

I also received my Sam Edelmans the other day - I cannot be more in love with them. I know I'm like two years too late on the pick-up, as almost every other blogger has them already but they're definitely one of the best purchases I've made. Its too bad that my feet issues prevent me from being able to spend long periods of time in them. Sadness.

In other news, its snowing in Michigan, finally. This only means that driving is going to be the scariest thing ever. On the plus side, it does make everything look very pretty. =D. I'm rambling.. okay time for beddd.

I met up with the amazingly stylish Hillary of FashionIndie for a charity fashion show a while back. Many of our friends were modeling thus it was only natural that we would go to show our support. It was really just another reason to dress up - these chances come very rarely when you're in Michigan. I absolutely adore Hillary's awesome faux fur vest, I've been searching for a great faux for such a long time now, but sadly - no luck.

I decided to bust out the dark lippie for the event, I've tried this shade a few times in broad daylight, but I don't think people here are ready for that yet. I'm wearing Cyber by MAC, I am so incredibly obsessed with it. I'm also insanely obsessed with heart dotted sheer tights - and when I saw this pair at AA, I had to get them.

So I caved and bought crazy ripped and bleached jeans. They just called to me - You know how that happens. First look - you think "oh, who wears those?" and then you see them again and somehow you can't live without them. The more I look at them the more I love them. Although, I'm still not too sure how to wear them. I thought grey would have been a good match, but ofcourse I have no grey basics.

It was unnaturally warm yesterday. Ahhh global warming. I decided to bust out my floral H&M dress, I haven't worn it in ages - I feel like I have to be in the right mood to wear it. Being the nerd that I am, I color coordinate my closet, and this morning I noticed that I own a disproportionally large amount of black clothing - thus I thought it would be fun to do a black-on-black outfit. This was my first attempt, and then I found the most amazing heart-dotted sheer black tights at American Apparel and I wore those with black shorts and I belted the blazer - I think I like that look better, but sadly there was nobody around to take my picture.

I have longed for the perfect tutu since the beginning of summer - and now, five months later, I've finally found it. Having taken ballet for ten years of my life - I know a thing or two about tutus. I wanted one that wasn't too costume-y, one that's not too structured or frilly. I also wanted the tulle to be somewhat softer - I detest cheap tulle, it's probably the quickest way to ruin a great outfit. And low and behold, I found this adorable nude tutu just hanging on the rack by its lonesome at H&M. Naturally, I had to give it a home. It didn't seem like it had too many friends in the store anyway.

I also love the combination of pastels - if it hadn't been so cold I would have gone tights-less. But I think the black tights give it a nice fall feel. Can we also talk about how amazing the faux ysl club monaco belt is!?!? I am SOOOO in love with it!!

Please ignore my nails, they're a horrible shade of pink leftover from halloween. I've been lazyyy.

HALLOWEEN DIY: Thierry Mugler Dress

I bet you can't even recognize me in that! Haha. I promise it is me though. I made a DIY Mugler for halloween because I knew that almost everyone is dressing up as gaga for halloween - but nobody was going to spend as much time as I did on their costume.

So to make this dress, here's what you do. First I bought a pleather skirt/dress from American Apparel. Then I cut out SYMMETRIC diamond shapes of cardboard - its really important that they're perfectly symmetric and narrow so that when you put four pieces together you get a lovely crystal or 3-d diamond shape. If you're going to do this - USE A RULER. Play with the sizes so you get a nice variation of crystals.

Next I superglued the four pieces together to make the shape, and I painted them gold - a la Gaga. Now attaching them onto the dress is tricky because I didn't want to straight-up glue them to the fabric - so I hot-glued safety pins onto the shapes and pinned them to my dress.

Now I know it doesn't look exactly like the real thing, but I think it comes close enough and people will most definitely get it.

So my friend forced me to make this really embarrassing music video, but I'm going to pretend that's not me. Yes. That's me singing. Not Lady Gaga.

Fall in Michigan

As much as I complain about Michigan, I absolutely love the fact that we have seasons! I would be so upset if I lived in a place that was only green leaves and sunshine all the time. Our campus is so charming and whimsical in autumn. Sometimes a chilly breeze and bright yellow leaves are all one needs to make their day better. There's something so refreshing about that first breath of crisp air in the morning. It rejuvenates you.

As many of you may know, today is the first night of Diwali - the festival of lights - a five day celebration of the Hindu new year. Naturally, my roommate and I went out to get indian food in celebration of the holiday. I couldn't help but take pics of the yummy samosas.

Then we lit candles - ofcourse!

I think going to an international high school really opened my eyes the many different cultures and traditions around the world. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have that experience. Throughout the years, I've become somewhat of an expert when it comes to India and I must say one of the most amazing things about the culture is their dress.

Every year the Indian Student Association puts on a dance show ( I was actually in it one year in high school, it was honestly the coolest thing ever - yes I know, I'm not Indian...), and I would ogle at the beautiful sarees and lehengas floating around - longing to wear one myself. I absolutely love the brightly colored fabrics, the detailed embroidery and the beautiful draping of the fabric. With stars like Freida Pinto and Aishwarya Rai, I expected indian fashions to be more integrated into main-stream clothing - but perhaps people just haven't discovered its wonders yet. Well here's a peek of what we're missing out on:

Sorry it's been so long since my last update, I get so caught up with school it's ridiculous. But lately I've been playing around with my hair a lot. I used to be the queen of hairstyles in high school, but I haven't really done anything since I got my hair cut.

Here are some new styles that I've been experimenting with.

#1. CRIMP - I've decided that crimped hair is so much more fun than curly hair, I think it gives my hair much more volume, and it's a bit edgier than girly curls.

#2. HAIRBOW - Yes, this is done with my own hair. A feat that even Lady Gaga herself fails to achieve.

#3. EIGHTIES PONY - Well I actually did this for a decades party, I am really kinda in love with it, but alas, I don't think my college campus is ready for such crazyness. At least not yet. I apologize for the crappy photos, this is what happens when I don't have anyone to take my picture... gahh.

Since it is FINALLY fall, I decided to whip out my dark lipstick and take my new over the knee boots out for a ride. I must admit, I did receive a few funny stares, but that has never stopped me from wearing anything before! I really adore these boots, they were the only pair of "bargain" thigh-high boots I could find - and I was really really glad to get my hands on a pair - just in time for fall too.

Lately I've been moping about complaining that I have absolutely nothing to wear, yet my closet could not be fuller. I think fall is a great season to layer, and hopefully I'll be experimenting with massive amounts of layering soon. But I never think I have anything good to layer with - I'm in desperate need of long sleeve cardigans and sweaters, they're going to be my go to items this season. Hopefully I'll snag some soon.

I did manage to go out and get that lovely shade of dark green from the new OPI Espana collection - it's called Here today Aragorn tomorrow.

I could not love it any more, at first I was a little upset that it wasn't more green but now I really like how subtle it is. Its a really rich shade of forest green mixed in with a black base. I think its funny how this color is only slightly different from the color I had on last week - my friends mom teased me about how all my fall/winter nail colors look exactly the same.

Pshhh. They are so NOT the same. Or at least that's what I'll keep on telling myself.

So I FINALLY got to see the September Issue - it wasn't scheduled in Michigan but some how one of the locally owned theaters got hold of it! It was absolutely fantastic. I adore Grace Coddington, her work is phenomenal. Her past modeling pictures were exquisite - and she has such an eye for styling. I loved to seeing so much of Anna, its nice to know that behind those fierce sunglasses lies a real and genuine person. I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone - regardless if you're interested in fashion or not. It's gives you a fantastic view of the industry, and the sheer influence of Anna's views is unbelievable. Its definitely on my to buy list.

I've changed my polish for the fall (its getting pretty chilly here)

I'm wearing Vendetta by Chanel - its a lovely shade of dark shimmery purple.

I bought a feather skirt yesterday, and I am SOOOO in love with it. You'll see it soon I'm sure!

I know you guys are sick to death of seeing these shoes, but I'm completely smitten by them. They've practically been glued to my feet ever since I had bought them. I also know that you guys are probably really sick of seeing this Target jacket as well, but it's such a great layering piece, and makes everything look good. I should be going shopping this weekend, hopefully I'll finally hunt down a great faux fur vest!

I've also been getting really into green polish - both pastel like Chanel Jade, and a rich emerald like OPI's Here today Aragon tomorrow from the Espana collection. Hopefully I'll be able to snag both of those on my shopping trip. Right now my nails are a nice shade of charcoal in OPI's You don't Know Jacques. It's starting to chip though, which means I must change the color!

Onto LFW news, I cannot get enough of the Amanda Wakely SS10 collection! It's very modern cleopatara. The necklaces are amazing!

Sorry my fashion week coverage has come to a halt - I'm so caught up with school at the moment, but I promise I'll be back soon with my favorites from the rest of fashion week! Day Three was absolutely fantastic! I love all the sparkle at Adam,Alexander Wang, Richard Chai, and that sequined swimsuit at VPL. I'm also really into those silky pants, I desperately need to get my hands a pair. I'm also very impressed with all the footwear on the runways - the studded booties at A.Wang are perfection, and the colorful strappy numbers at VPL are the perfect touch to any summer ensemble. I absolutely love the layering at Rag&Bone, it's definitely something I'll be experimenting with this fall. The sheer ruched leggings at Charlotte are fantastic, they're so girly but the studs toughen it up! The feathers at Jason Wu are just pure genius, I want one of those pieces RIGHT NOW. I'm also a huge fan of the sheer flowy dusters we've been seeing at Vena Cava and now at Erin W. The shoulders at Preen are phenomenal, and the cutouts are Yigal are just plain sick.

Also I'm trying to catch up with my outfit posts, I wore this a few days ago when it was raining, and thus, chilly. It only reminds me that I need some good layering pieces. Ugh.

I spent the majority of the day moping about - absolutely miserable at the fact that I'm in Michigan, not New York. Ugh. College. I'm so excited for it to be over. Not only did I miss the first day of fashion week, but I also missed out on Fashion's Night Out. Which sounds like just about the coolest event ever.

Like an addict going through withdrawal, I could not keep myself away from Twitter, constantly checking back to get my hourly dose of NYFW & Fashion's Night Out happenings. Thank you fashion bloggers for twittering, I'm totally living vicariously through you guys. Sighs. Its so sad to think that I was there less than a month ago.

When I was finally done with my self-pity, I decided to make it my goal to give my readers DAILY updates during NYFW. I hope to get looks from the major collections that walked everyday. It'll make me feel like I'm there.

I know that fall florals are a bit cliche, but I really like the idea of transitional looks, and I do think summery prints and thick knits are a great combo for September. I desperately need some long cardigans and chunky knits, but I'm currently lacking funds. It's very annoying at the moment. I picked up this frock a couple of months ago in nyc, and I recently spotted it on Sienna Miller!

I absolutely ADORE Essie's Neon Collection and I thought it was only fitting to celebrate my last week of summer with electric yellow nails. I LOVEEE the shade, I would totally wear it all the time!

I was bored with my very outgrown "lob" so I decided to get a cut to change things up. I've always adored Gweneth's blunt angled bob and I finally had to courage to go for it! Although it is very upsetting that my outgrown bangs weren't long enough to complete the look. Oh well. You win some you lose some.

I was listening to Madonna's new single, Celebration, and I instantly had the urge to wear bright pink shadow and backcomb the hell out of my hair. I love the Alexander McQueen shoes with the blue polish - its perfect!(thanks Jak & jill for the amazing photo). I don't know if many people saw the Topshop Unique collection but it's probably my favorite show of the f/w 09 season - those sequined harem pants are absolutely genius! There's also the cover from Madonna's first album, which was was absolutely divine, and she's still got it 20 years later!

My friend got me these phenomenal shoes for my birthday and I wore this outfit to a lovely brunch. I cannot get enough of them even though they're ridiculously high and I have difficulties walking - oh well, practice makes perfect!

I just realized that I'm like a walking advertisement for H&M - I should go into H&M rehab, but its just so difficult!!! That place is heaven for college students lacking funds! It also doesn't help that their fall collection is amazing.

I finally saw Julie & Julia and it made me realize the huge influence that bloggers have. People don't really appreciate the amount of time bloggers spend on their craft, and let me tell you - its hard work! As a blogger one feels obligated to always give their readers something new and exciting to contemplate - but when "real life" gets in the way its difficult to update consistently.

Thus I applaud the bloggers who manage to update daily - for I could not possibly keep up with that.

But for a blogger, the most rewarding part is the moment you realize that someone out there is fascinated by your musings. Someone you don't even know. And yet, without knowing it, you may have become a source of inspiration to this complete stranger.

That is why I love to blog.

My friends and I got together for a little garden party in celebration of my 20th birthday. It was really just another excuse to get dressed up and enjoy cocktails. Although the food was absolutely amazing and I probably ate enough to sustain a normal human being for a week. Oh well - waste not!

After much deliberation I decided to wear my pleather f21 mini - I feared that it might be a little too skimpy for a garden party but... oh well! It was MY party after all! Of course I had to pair it with my favorite pair of faux Balmains from Zara. Those shoes were made to be photographed!

There's a funny thing about turning 20 - you start to think about all the responsibilities you have, what you're going to do with your life, and if you'll make a difference in the world or not. I think we all hope to impact the world in some way - we're just doing it differently.

Being old makes you think of boring things like that. Haha.

There's something about being in a garden that makes me want to twirl around and burst into song. Its so relaxing and zen - even though I have a horrible (irrational) fear of bees.

I snatched this amazing necklace at F21 - I was shocked to see it there as it's surprisingly well-made and a little different from their usual aesthetic. Of course I had to pair it with a LBD - and I love this one because of the little cutouts in the back.

My friends are just better.

I've met some truly amazing people when I was in New York and Chris is most definitely one of them. When we weren't working at Club Monaco, Chris and I would find ways to amuse ourselves in the city - for free ofcourse! Our favorite spots include:

- The High Line at sunset
- MoMA (friday nights are free)
- The Brooklyn Bridge past midnight (its crawling with tourists during the day)

Alas, the budget of a recent graduate looking for a job cannot finance anything too extravagant. So if you work in the fashion design industry - pleaseeee give Chris a job so that we can finance more exciting escapades in the future!

I'm finally back in Michigan again. its very bittersweet as I'm glad to be with all my friends, but very very sad to leave the city. I did miss all the beautiful parks and green spaces in Michigan - Central Park wasn't enough for me.

Now I'm done working, my nails are able to resume to their crazy colors again. I'm currently wearing Essie's Punchy Pink from their Neon Collection. And I desperately want to get my hands on that fluorescent yellow polish they make.

On one lucky rainy Manhattan day I ducked into DSW (to avoid become a walking puddle) and found these phenomenal YSL-inspired booties waiting for me. They were 50% off, and the last pair on the rack - and they were my size. It was a definite sign that somebody wanted me to have them. They are honestly the most AMAZING shoes known to mankind - and surprisingly comfortable. Although - a word of warning girls - HEADS TURN.

But the fairly wet summer that New Yorkers have been experiencing only has me longing for an extreme heat wave - the kind of day where the air feels stuffy, your skin feels sticky and the scorching sun is beating down on you. Again, I apologize profusely that I have not been blogging as much as I should be. But expect posts to be consistent from now on because I'm heading back home soon - and being in Michigan gives me plenty of time to blog. New York has been absolutely amazing and I'm sad to leave - but I know it'll always be here waiting for me to return.

I snagged this dress at the Topshop sale a few weeks ago. Topshop has been tempting me with its wonders ever since I arrived in the city. Walking into the 4-story store is so absolutely inviting to me - songs from my ipod are blasting as I try on a pair of studded shorts with a striped croptop, and sky high cage heels. Looking into the mirror - you just feel good. And that moment is what Topshop is all about to me.

I've also been looking for the perfect transition shoes from summer to fall - and I'm dreaming of these balenciaga beauties...

I love the draped sash, the cage, the thin heel - everything about this shoe screams perfection. If only, if only....

The High Line is officially my favorite place in the city. Its so whimsical and delicate compared to the busy city below. And probably one of the best places to watch the sunset over the river.

Sorry my posts have been so few and far in between. Blogging takes a backseat now that I work/intern 7 days a week. I did score a few pieces at Topshop, and I'm in the market for a pair of awesome sandals, so hopefully I'll have more exciting things to show you next time. Editorial hunting has also taken a slump due to crazy work schedules. But now I'm off to see Bruno!
