The worlds of fashion and music seem so often to be intertwined and interdependent. Indeed, music festivals are one of the best places for streetstyle, and dress is an undeniable aspect that sets bands apart (other than music, ofcourse!) Thus it should not come as a suprise that a strong interest in music blossomed from my love for fashion.
All my friends are uploading pictures from Lollapalooza, and I could not be more envious. The line-up is insane this year, and ofcourse, I just happen to be here, on the other side of the world. So to cheer myself up, I decided to make a collage of what I would wear to lolla if teleportation was possible, and I could get the day off from work to go.
Here's the List of Shows I'd want to see:
Day 1: These United States Wavves The Walkmen The Big Pink The New Pornographers Dirty Projectors / Fuck Buttons / Matt & Kim (mad dash is necessary between the three stages because they all play at the same time - that'll be my excercise for the day) The Black Keys / Hot Chip Chromeo Lady Gaga / The Strokes
Day 2: Mimicking Birds The Soft Pack Wild Beasts Stars / Warpaint Dan Black / The xx (2 great bands at the same time again!! grr!) Grizzly Bear Metric Spoon / Edward Sharpe Cut Copy Phoenix
Day 3: The Antlers The Dodos Blitzen Trapper Freelance Whales Yeasayer Frightened Rabbit MGMT/Wolfmother The National Arcade Fire
Well that's my list. Did any of you get to go to Lolla? If so, what shows did you go to & how were they? I've only heard really really good things about this year's festival, wish I was there... *sighs*

I think I have multiple personality disorder. Currently I'm obsessed (on one hand) with everything Texas Cowboy giving off that carefree all-american rugged ranger attitude. I crave light denims, cowboy hats, harness boots, and ofcourse destroyed cutoffs. But then I'm also in love with all items that channel Pocahantas, and exude a more spiritual feel - fringe suede bags, feather accessories, bright earthy prints, and ofcourse, tie dye. Thus I was torn between making a Wild Wild West collage and a Neon Indian one.
Bah! But why should I choose? So I combined both of them into one and I think they compliment eachother very nicely. Tis the summmer to mix worn denim jackets with a tribal print dress and a studded fringe cross-body. Or why not don a tie dye dress with a pair of embellished cowboy boots? I think doing a DIY tie dye project is going to be on the top of my list when I get back to the US.
Summer is well upon us, even though the humidity and spontaneous downpour in Shanghai makes one think otherwise. Every summer I find myself, like so many others I'm sure, craving for ethnic prints and rich vivid hues that will highlight my newly acquired tan complexion. Yes, Yes, Tanning kills.I am aware that in China people are supposed to have ghastly pale skin. No I do not want face bleaching products. But thank you for your concern.
This summer I've become increasingly attracted to everything Bombay. Elaborate embroidered patterns, sari-esque draping, gold jewelry and particularly Indian style scarves. I'm a firm believer the scarf is a year-round accessory. I'm sure that the inventor of the scarf must have been a genius of sorts.
Anyway, enough babble. I hope you guys enjoy my little mood board. <3
And I present to you the final edition of my NYFW coverage! I hope you enjoy your weekends - mines going to be filled with lots of schoolwork. Already! Ridiculous.
I was listening to Madonna's new single, Celebration, and I instantly had the urge to wear bright pink shadow and backcomb the hell out of my hair. I love the Alexander McQueen shoes with the blue polish - its perfect!(thanks Jak & jill for the amazing photo). I don't know if many people saw the Topshop Unique collection but it's probably my favorite show of the f/w 09 season - those sequined harem pants are absolutely genius! There's also the cover from Madonna's first album, which was was absolutely divine, and she's still got it 20 years later!
Had a crazy week, but the weekend is coming soon, and I finally got a chance to catch up on all the resort shows via style.com. My two favorites (so far, as i haven't gotten to look at all of them) are most definitely the Yigal Azrouƫl and the Burberry Prorsum shows. I was floored by the turbans at the Yigal show, they look so chic and I absolutely loved the Moroccan influences. I feel that the Burberry show is at the other end of the spectrum, but Christopher Bailey is a genius when it comes to tailoring and creating the perfect silhouette. There is something so effortlessly cool about every piece.
I also loved the shorts at Marc and the bright pops of color at Jason Wu. I was shocked by miu miu which seemed to revert to a more classic and feminine look - I particularly adore the colors in that show. As for the other shows - I wasn't too impressed with Marc by Marc, and I only really liked one look from Chanel, Alexander Wang was mediocre, and DVF seemed to be playing it safe.
Here are just some of my favorites from yesterday's Met Gala! I am absolutely obsessed with Claudia's Versace and Ashley's The Row dress. I wonder what those events are like - I always tell myself that one day I'll be invited to one as well... lol.
I've finally made it to Shanghai after an intense swine flu inspection on my plane. Now I'm currently extremely jet-lagged. Also my allergies are going crazy - which is just gross. But I will have an outfit post for you tomorrow! Stay Tuned!
Everyone will tell you that I have a thing for bright colors. Thus, you could only imagine my delight when I spotted bright splashes of cherry red, electric yellow, barbie pink, and lush cerulean all strewn across the fall runways.
That's right dear readers, color is no longer confined to the stuffy and humid months of June, July and August. No, color has decided that it would like to be apart of the rest of the year as well. So say goodbye to that charcoal grey military jacket of yours - and say hello to this Louis Vuitton overcoat in a yummy fire-engine red. Plus, the last thing we need in this economic crisis is to look dark and dreary for half the year. Remember and repeat: Color = Optimism!
For those of you, like me, who lack the funds to purchase such runway numbers, I'm sure that some time within the next four months you will find a lonely juicy apple green peacoat abandoned at a thrift store. After all, this is why they show fall collections in spring!
I realized that my last Paris Fashion week collage was not comprehensive enough. So I made another one! Anyone else obsessing over LV and Ungaro!?!? I really want those tights with the huge shiny discs on them! I am also digging the sheerness at Givenchy although I have to admit the fake hair on the clothes really scared me. Limi Feu!! I really want that black cardi + belt combo!
Oh paris, why do you tempt me so?
Current to-buy list: 1. Romper / Jumpsuit 2. Nude Patent Heels 3. Harem pants 4. Nude Nail Polish 5. These Dries Van Noten Inspired Shoes...
So many things to buy... so little funds.... *sighs* Story of my life. Sorry to bore you with another fashion week post - its so hard to keep up with these shows!!
I promise promise promise that an outfit post and a photoshoot post are one their way!!
Here are my favorites from Paris fashion week! I love the Christian Dior collection - *drools* I would wear it all! I love the bright colors and chiffon *sighs* - I'm also adoring the skirts at Balenciaga - oh Nicolas, how you tempt me.
For some reason, I'm really taken away with the mint color at the Chanel show too - pastels for winter? That's a new concept - but I kinda like it!
I don't know why but there hasn't been much buzz about the Lanvin show - in my opinion it was one of the better shows in Paris.
I think I'll post some pictures from one of the photoshoots I styled for a magazine soon - stay tuned!
